I Judge You By Your E-Mail Address
Oh, yes, my friends. It's true. Your e-mail address reveals much about you.
@aim.com - You have an AIM e-mail address? Seriously? Who signs up for an e-mail address with AIM? Did they trick you into doing that?
@aol.com - Please tell me you are not still paying for AOL....
@bellsouth.net, @comcast.net, @charter.net - You've settled down and established a family.
@gmail.com - You're a reasonably hip person. I might like to meet you.
@webtv.net - I can't decide if this is worse than aim.com. Yeah, I think it is. It's fine if you used to have webtv, but you should have upgraded your service and your e-mail address a long time ago.
@hotmail.com - You played bass (rockergrrl1997) or loved penguins (iluvpenguinz79) 10 years ago when you were 14.
@juno.com, @netzero.net - You still have dial-up? That stinks. You're probably doing something smart like saving money and following budget guidelines.
I think the award for Coolest Email Address EVER goes to a friend whose e-mail address was @davidbowie.com

Miscellaney
Hope you are having a good week.
I'm pretty good. Lots to do. Taxes, new ghia inventory, other stuff.
Right now I'm re-training Cameron so that we can walk without him pulling me down the street. It's very slow work, but I'm seeing a difference.
I have some new BzzAgent reviews to write, and I'm pretty excited about those. I get to try Chili's new Smokehouse Bacon Burger for free. Gotta do that before my coupons expire at the end of the month. If I'm eating at a chain restaurant, Chili's is one of my preferences, and I always love a good restaurant burger. I also get to try Horizon Organic Milk Plus DHA. I've bought Horizon Organic Milk before, and our in-house milk connoisseur loves it, so we'll see how this new products fares.

Hockey Heartache
Hubby's work gave him free tickets to the game against the Capitals Tuesday night. Sigh. I don't think I've ever heard Preds fans boo their own team that much. The first period was really bad. They played better in the 2nd and 3rd periods, but it just wasn't enough.
Things overheard at the game Tuesday night:
"Maybe he'll shoot....no......maybe he'll shoot....no...."
"Tootoo looks like Admiral Ackbar." (I'm still trying to figure out that one.)
I'm at the Red Wings game right now. Ellis got pulled in the 2nd period after the Wings scored 2 goals on (I think) 13 shots. I don't think Trotz should have pulled him at that point. I know our goalies aren't great this year, but generally I think Trotz has been pulling them way too quickly. As I told Paul, it's like Trotz keeps switching checkout lanes at the grocery store to see which one will be faster. And the truth is, it really doesn't make that much of a difference.
I'm happy to see Cellblock 303 in good form tonight. They had been eerily silent at the previous games. I don't think they even had anyone holding up the signs. Fortunately, they're back to insulting everybody tonight.
At least there have been some good fights/scuffles during this game. If we're going to play poorly, in the interest of tickets sales we at least need to have some interesting fights. I think that will appeal to the people who go to NASCAR races for the wrecks.

Shoulds
My Twitter feed might provide some insight into being a small business owner. My updates usually go something like this:
I hate QuickBooks.
Can someone help me with QuickBooks?
Yay, I'm in the paper!
Yay, I received a new shipment!
I hate QuickBooks.
I have been very blessed to receive a lot of QuickBooks help lately. Very kind friends, relatives, and acquaintances are pooling their collective knowledge to help me prepare my tax return. I am so thankful to them and to God for that help. I hope I can help other small business owners in the same way.

That WordPress site....
I added as RSS feed of the non-profit's Google Calendar to the sidebar. That seems to be the best way to feature a dynamic list of upcoming events.
So, if you're curious, check it out:

East Nashville Eats
Calypso Cafe -- Yes, the awesome Calypso finally has crossed the border, er, river. I'm excited about their new location attracting downtown business folk to the Eastside for lunch.
MadDonna's -- After months of preparation, MadDonna's opened last week. Paul and I visited last night. I thought it was on the good side of average. My hamburger was pretty good, but both it and the calamari appetizer were bland for my tastes. Paul liked the calamari and really enjoyed his entree, the Coconut Thai Salmon. We ate in the main dining room, although we took a peek at the outside dining area and the upstairs bar (very chic). This is a great addition to the 'hood. The grand opening will be April 28th.
Coming Soon:
The Veggie Cafe -- The long-awaited Veggie Cafe opens tomorrow! I am so excited that this place is about to open, especially since it's within walking distance of my house. I tried a smoothie and veggie wrap from these ladies at the Tomato Art Fest, and it was a delicious meal. Plus, they gave ice to my dog, so they've earned a place in my heart forever. I look forward to trying some of their vegetarian soul food; I've heard the meatless meatloaf is great.
UPDATE 3/14/07: Just stopped by Veggie Cafe, and they are still undergoing health inspections. They hope to be open by tonight, or perhaps tomorrow.
Mitchell's Delicatessen -- This place opens March 22nd in Riverside Village. The deli will offer a variety of sandwiches, meats, cheeses, a salad bar, and prepared food (the latter from Chef Julia of Family Wash fame). It will be open for breakfast, lunch, and early dinner.
Mike's Ice Cream/Sip -- Mike Duguay of Mike's Ice Cream Fountain is taking over Sip this month and adding his ice cream to the shop's offerings. But don't worry, Sip fans -- reportedly there are few changes planned other than the addition of ice cream. Duguay also plans to move the manufacturing aspect of his business to Riverside Village later this year.
Pied Piper Creamery EXPANDED -- And speaking of ice cream, Pied Piper is expanding to take over the space recently vacated by V Floral & Gift. Owner Jenny Piper tells me her shop will soon be offering sandwiches and perhaps a hot food item each day.
One thing we won't be seeing soon is an Asian fusion restaurant. Riverside Village developer Dan Heller reports that plans for the new restaurant are on hold after Metro Water demanded a $42,000 connection fee from the prospective restaurant owner.
I have to admit, when I first heard this story I wondered if it was referring to an inexperienced business owner who had found himself in over his head (I know something about that!). Turns out, the man behind the plan for the new restaurant is Matt Charette, owner of Beyond the Edge and Batter'd & Fried. Yeah, he knows a little something about running restaurants, and I'm sad that the exorbitant water fees are prohibiting him from investing further in the community. I really, really hope this restaurant happens.
For more info about the crazy water connection fees, check out this recent article from the Tennessean.
One last note -- Castrillo's has been sold. The recipes will stay the same, but the new owner decided to scale back operations a bit. The pizza place will revert to delivery and carry-out only, although pizza lovers will be welcome to dine in the courtyard of Riverside Village.

For a Good Time, Call 770-PUCK
So, do you have your tickets for the March 11 Preds game? That's free food night at the Sommet center, and all fans will receive a voucher for a free hot dog and soft drink. Plus, there will be popcorn through the first intermission. Hockey + free dinner makes for a great night of family fun.
FREE HOCKEY:
If Preds tickets aren't in the budget this year, consider checking out the public Predators practices at Centennial Sportsplex. It's great way to see your favorite players in action, and it's FREE! Practices are usually posted here, and you can also try calling Sportsplex to see when the next practice will be. If you're sticking around Nashville for spring break, this might be a great activity for your kids.
AND PRIZES!
This Friday, March 7, Beyond the Edge in East Nashville is hosting a Preds party at 8:30pm. There are always great prizes at these events, usually including tickets to a Predators home game. And if you happen to know Paul, be sure to stop by and wish him a happy birthday. (Beyond the Edge is 21 and up.)

Above: Sign at the Sommet Center. Radek Bonk's name has great pun potential.

Gig!
Several students from the Nashville Jazz Workshop will be performing at Edgehill Studios Cafe on Tuesday, March 4. We'll be there from 6:30pm to 9pm.
I've taken two classes at the Nashville Jazz Workshop, and I've had a lot of fun. I've never performed jazz in a public setting, though, so I'm pretty nervous about the gig. I know it will be a great experience, and I figure I can try to channel some Ella if I forget my words.
I will be performing FIRST at 6:30pm (eeeeeeeeeeek!), so get there early if you want to see me. We would love to be able to pay our band for their time, so if you can bring a couple of bucks for the tip jar, that would be great.
This is a student gig, so I'm guessing the performers will range from awesome to meh. However, if you come, please clap and cheer like we are the bestest singers you've ever heard. This is a time for encouragement, not honesty. :-D
So, see you Tuesday night:
